receives
the Mort Korengold award, Division 34
Kiwanian of the Year!

Mort Korengold Award to Glenn Lew

Our club was thrilled that this year's winner of the Mort Korengold  Award is Glenn Lew.

Mort Korengold Honorees:

  • Larry Graves
  • Glenn Lew
  • Pete Smith

This prestigious award, basically the Kiwanian of  the Year Award at the division level, was begun as a tribute to the late Mort Korengold, who died of heart failure while serving as President of the San Carlos Club December 19, 1982. Each year the award is presented at the Lt. Governor Installation Banquet to a Kiwanian, selected from nominees submitted by various clubs in the division, who best exemplifies what  Kiwanis is all about.

Glenn Lew joined Kiwanis in 1993 and has accomplished much and  contributed greatly, to our club, to Division 34 and to the community. One of the first things Glenn did as a Kiwanian was to work with Phil Wang to establish our club's Key Club at Sequoia High School. He has been our Key Club advisor for 12 years and is an outstanding role model for the Key Clubbers. The Sequoia Key Club is known throughout the Division to be very active in service and this year was awarded 2nd place for Division project fundraising.

Glenn has been club President and has chaired and been a member of many of our committees. Glenn attends most club functions, club and division installations, governor's visits, and conventions, especially Key Club conventions. He has also served on our Board of Directors. As club Bulletin Editor he redesigned our bulletin as a multi-page monthly instead of a single page weekly, and the revised and much improved bulletin won the first place award in both the District and International bulletin contests the very first year of our new design.

At the division level Glenn has served as Sponsored Youth Chair and  Division Bulletin Editor. He also was the originator of KIDD's Day, a Division fundraiser for the World Wide Service Project. KIDD's Day was a miniature golf tournament that included K-Kids from Garfield School, Builder Clubs, Key Clubs, and many Kiwanians throughout the division.  This event raised several thousand dollars over four years for the IDD project.

In addition to the countless hours of time Glenn devotes to Kiwanis  activities, he also volunteers in many other capacities.  He has been a Little League umpire since Spring of 2000, received additional training to become a District umpire a year or two later and helped to train new umpires in Spring 2004.  Glenn was head coach for his son, Kevin's SFLL Farm team in spring of 2003 and assistant coach for Kevin's team in Spring 2004. He also has been team parent.

Glenn has a dental practice in Redwood City and is a panel member for the Give Back a Smile program through the American Academy of Cosmetic  Dentistry Charitable Foundation.  This is a program to provide dental care for survivors of domestic violence. This dedicated Kiwanian has been very active, despite running a successful dental practice and raising two boys with his wife. It is amazing that he can find so much time for Kiwanis and the community.

In recognition of his dedicated service Glenn has been awarded Kiwanian of the Year, a Distinguished Kiwanian Award, a George F. Hixson Award, a Tablet of Honor and was selected as our club's Unsung Hero in 2004.  Glenn enjoys the sincere respect and admiration of every member of our club, The Woodside Terrace A.M. Kiwanis Club. Congratulations Glenn Lew for winning the Mort Korengold Award.
