Sequoia Key Club Report
Spring Report
April was a very fun month at Sequoia. There was a lot of planning for convention. About 20 of our members flew down to Long Beach and had a very fun, spitited time at convention. We were able to meet up with the rest of our division and cheer ourselves on. Despite the little sleep we got, it was a blast and we were always in the Key Club spirit. GO Penguins! How do you feel?
We are also planning to have a Key Club team in our school's Relay For Life It's in late May and we are doing are best to start rasing money for our team to participate. We have a good sized team and are ready for our all night walk for cancer. Another huge event. Elections! We had the Sequoia Key Club officer elections. We had a whole bunch of new positions and openings for our members to become more involved in the club. Now we have our board for next year. I'm sure they will have a fun time learning to plan events, run the club and fill out MRFs! This was a great month for our Key Club. I hope we can stay this active next year as well.

Winter Report
This month, the Sequoia Key Club had donut sales at a couple of the football games at our school.
This was to fundraise for our club in general. Glenn Lew, our Kiwanis advisor, picked up the donuts and brought them to school.
We sold a lot of donuts and made a good amount in profit.
Some of our members also went to the DCM, where they made pillow cases for kids in hospitals.
Our last major event was "Horses to Horsepower", an auto show on the Sequoia High School campus. This community event was hosted at our school and the Key Club set up a booth where we sold drinks and popcorn. We also did face-painting and ran the jump house. We got donations and are using this money also to fund raise for the club. All this fundraising will help get the club some money for future events and help support our trip to the RTC.
The rest of the Sequoia Key Club's MRF will be sent by our other secretary, Francesca Arana.
Sincerely,
Catherine Wellman Assistant Secretary
Before Summer Began, Key Club Reported...
This month, our Key Club at Sequoia High School has participated in the Kiwanis Take-Over Meeting, Special Games, we helped out at Relay for Life, and participated in the DCM at Rainbow Park. The Kiwanis Take-Over meeting was a great way for the new officers of the Sequoia High School Key Club to get a feel for how Kiwanis meetings are held. It was also a great opportunity to meet the wonderful Kiwanians who we will be working with in the future. This meeting got us very excited for the year that lies ahead of us. Volunteering at Relay for Life was great because we had the chance to help the American Cancer Society with working at one of the booths. It felt very rewarding to help such a hard-working organization that is dedicated to such a wonderful cause. Special Games was also a very rewarding experience. It was so nice to have an opportunity to help the participants and their families. It was awesome to see their smiling faces as they enjoyed the events.
I would like to thank our sponsoring Kiwanis Club for making it possible for us to participate in these events this month and for giving us the opportunity to take over the Kiwanis meeting. I am so happy that I got the chance to meet all of the supportive and wonderful members.
Sincerely, Francesca Arana Sequoia Key Club Secretary
Going Back to Last Year....
Our Key Club offered assistance to our sponsoring Kiwanis Club for their huge fundraising event, a crab cioppino dinner. The 11 Key Clubbers that attended were really helpful by setting up every place setting, serving the guests, selling raffle tickets, and cleaning up at the end of the event. The Kiwanis Club fundraised hundreds of dollars, which will go toward future service projects.
Four of our members were able to attend the DCM and had a wonderful time bidding at the auction and socializing with other Key Clubbers. A few of the new officers were in attendance, which helped them to get acquainted with DCMs and the Key Club spirit.
Last but not least is Total K day. 10 members worked in conjunction with our sponsoring Kiwanis Club to clean up a local park, Red Morton. There were many dirt-covered signs, tables covered in staples, trash on the ground, and the park needed a couple trees. We had a wonderful time working together. One of the Kiwanis members provided lunch – hot dogs, chips, and drinks! Our Kiwanis Club is really supportive, so on behalf of our Key Club I would like to say thank you to all of the Kiwanis members who are always there to lend a helping hand, whether it be monetary or physical assistance!
We can’t wait for convention this year!!
I want to wish everyone on our board good luck as we are all seniors soon to be graduating and heading off to start a new chapter of our lives at super rad colleges!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A few of us know where we’re going and a few of us are still deciding where to attend, but I’ve known you all for so long, and I’ll truly miss each one of you. I love you! Class of ’06, rock on!!
During February, all of our energy and efforts were devoted to the bike rodeo that our sponsoring Kiwanis club asked us to head ourselves. With their full support and faith in each of us, we spent the majority of January organizing a bike safety fair for children in Redwood City. Our Key Club was divided into smaller groups, each assigned to a specific aspect of the bike rodeo. These groups were in charge of tasks such as purchasing and selling the food, purchasing and fitting the helmets, face painting, bike repair, etc. It was a long, yet beneficial process.
On the day of the bike rodeo, February 11, each of us went to our stations, eager to see all of the children that were to come learn about bike safety. Many of the children in the area surrounding Garfield elementary school in Redwood City know little about bike safety and many are out riding their bikes dangerously, without helmets. We felt as though it was our job to take action by providing as many children with free helmets as participated in the event. Kindly, a local sheriff and local police officer set up cones for a bike riding course and spoke to the children about bike safety and how to properly ride their bikes around on the streets. The highlight of the event was hands down the raffle. The children were each given a raffle at the sign-in table (along with goodie bags) and held these tightly in their hands, eager with anticipation of winning a new bike or lock for their current bike. A few bikes were raffled off, and to see the looks on the children’s faces upon hearing their numbers called brought a tear to our eyes.
It was wonderful to see families sharing this moment with their children. We were all amazed at the turnout – around 80 children received free helmets at this event! It is the hope of our Key Club and our sponsoring Kiwanis club that this event will promote bike safety
